RAC and ICA CCI KR Seminar "The role and responsibilities of arbitrators: interesting cases of conflicts of interest"

At the end of June, the RAC together with the ICA CCI KR held a seminar on the topic "The role and responsibilities of arbitrators: interesting cases of conflicts of interest." In an informal atmosphere of a business breakfast, members of the arbitration community discussed issues of appointing arbitrators arising in practice.

The speakers were:

Natalia Alenkina - Associate Professor, American University of Central Asia, Ph.D. in Law, Arbitrator;

Shamaral Maichiev - Chairman, International Court of Arbitration in affiliation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic;

Anna Arkhipova - Deputy Chairman, Maritime Arbitration Commission at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Member of the Board, Russian Arbitration Center

Moderator: Yulia Mullina – Director, Russian Arbitration Center.

The event began with a lively discussion in search of the main quality of an arbitrator. Then the experts raised the issue of the appointment criteria (gender, age, etc.), and also discussed approaches to the appointment of arbitrators in the RAC and the ICA CCI KR. During the seminar, the participants asked a lot of questions to the experts about the practical problems of the independence and impartiality of arbitrators.
