Summer Academy 2023 «Arbitration Vacations: introduction to Alternative Dispute Resolution»
The fourth Summer Academy took place from July 31 to August 4, 2023. Out of 46 applications received, the Organizing Committee selected 23 participants who had the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and become familiar with the basic principles of arbitration proceedings.
Experienced experts in the field of alternative dispute resolution: Denis Almakaev, Dmitry Andreev, Alexander Grebelsky, Roman Zaitsev, Maxim Kuzmin, Maxim Kulkov, Maria Lyubimova, Olesya Petrol and Zhanna Tomashevskaya shared their valuable knowledge by giving lectures on negotiations, arbitration agreements, arbitral's tribunal constitution, submission of written positions, conflicts of interest, witnesses and experts in the arbitration, rendering an award and its enforcement in Russia and abroad. Russian Arbitration Center's representatives, Valeria Butyrina, Deputy Director, and Sabina Ganieva, Executive Administrator, spoke about alternative methods of dispute resolution and the role of the arbitration institution in arbitration proceedings.
In addition to the lectures, students of the Summer Academy also got acquainted with the Renewal Law mentor program (Anastasia Cheredova) and took part in the panel discussion “Arbitration in Asia, the CIS and Europe: new horizons and opportunities.” Renat Baimukhametov, Sherzod Abdulkasimov and Anna Grishchenkova shared their experience of acting as representatives and arbitrators in foreign arbitration institutions. The discussion was moderated by Ekaterina Petrenko, Legal Counsel of the RAC.
Traditionally, the Summer Academy ended with an evening reception on the veranda of the International and Comparative Law Research Center (ICLRC). At the end of the course all the students of the Summer Academy were gifted with the Russian translation of “Idea of Arbitration” by Jan Paulsson, which will allow them to continue studying the field of arbitration.
