RAC Events in Thailand
Trade between Russia and Thailand continues to grow, leading to an increasing need for effective dispute resolution mechanisms. In response to this trend, the Russian Arbitration Center (RAC), in collaboration with colleagues from Thailand, organised a series of events in Bangkok last week, focusing on various aspects of dispute resolution in both jurisdictions.
On 20 August 2024, RAC and the Thai-Russian Chamber of Commerce (TRCC) hosted a joint event addressing the legal aspects of trade and economic relations between Russia and Thailand. During the event, Valeria Butyrina, Deputy Director of the RAC, presented the available methods of alternative dispute resolution involving parties from Russia and Thailand. The panel also featured speakers such as Thomas Wong (Harvey Law Co.), Diego Sala (Siam Trade Development Co.), Maria Schlueter (Silk Legal Co.), and Yuri Lyzhin (TRCC).
On 21 August 2024, RAC and the Thailand Arbitration Centre (THAC) organised a panel discussion titled “Arbitration Dialogue between Thailand and Russia”. RAC and THAC had signed a memorandum of understanding in 2021, agreeing to cooperate and jointly organise events aimed at promoting arbitration.
Speakers at the event included Elijiah Putilin (Putilin Dispute Management), Emi Rowse (Kudun & Partners), and Pralakorn Slwawej (Weerawong C&P). The discussion was moderated by Nicki Balani, Director of the THAC, and Valeria Butyrina. Participants discussed the similarities and differences between the arbitration regimes of Russia and Thailand, including legislative differences in arbitration regulation, nuances in drafting arbitration agreements, the role of national courts in supporting arbitration, and issues surrounding the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards.
The RAC team extends its gratitude to the Thai-Russian Chamber of Commerce, the Thailand Arbitration Centre, as well as all speakers and participants for their active involvement and interest in our activities.
