This year, the Academy introduced an innovative format: the lecture series featured a dynamic panel discussion where invited speakers and moderators engaged in lively conversations on pressing issues, sharing invaluable insights, practical tips and life hacks drawn from their extensive experience. Speakers included practicing lawyers, partners from leading law firms, academics, and independent arbitrators.
Lectures at the Academy for Arbitrators covered a wide range of topics, such as the appointment of arbitrators, jurisdictional issues, choice of applicable law, interaction with party-appointed arbitrators, experts, and witnesses throughout the proceedings. Participants also explored the intricacies of arbitral award drafting and other procedural nuances that every arbitrator encounters during an arbitration.
A specialty of the 2024 Academy was the inclusion of workshops — interactive masterclasses led by experienced arbitrators who provided practical advice on various topics, including how to successfully pass an interview for an arbitrator position, how to properly prepare an arbitral award, and more.
For the first time, this year's Academy included a day dedicated to international experts. Among them were Robert Sliwinski, Artem Doudko, Anne K. Hoffmann, Marike Paulsson, Sean Yates, and Tatiana Minaeva. Additionally, a successful workshop was organized in collaboration with the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), where Vivekananda Neelakantan and Margarita Drobyshevskaia shared their insights on the administration of cases at SIAC.
Participants in the 2024 Academy had the opportunity to choose from various formats tailored to the course content. Attendees were also offered a practical assignment to test their knowledge gained during the lecture course. The program of the Academy for Arbitrators is available on our website.
